I was delighted to be in London for the Coronation of King Charles last weekend - a historic occasion of which our nation can be proud.
The streets were awash with the red, white and blue of the Union Jack, and the atmosphere was electric as people from all walks of life came together to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Everywhere I looked, people were excited and jubilant – a testament to the unity and pride that the monarchy inspires. The Coronation itself was a grand and majestic affair, steeped in tradition and history. It was a powerful reminder of the continuity and stability that the monarchy represents for our United Kingdom.
The monarchy truly is the glue that binds us together. Despite the political differences that so often divide us, the monarchy stands as a symbol of unity and continuity that transcends our everyday lives. It is a living, breathing monument to the shared history that has shaped our nation. It is an institution that we can all take pride in.
During my time in London, I had the opportunity to meet with several diplomats who had travelled from far and wide to attend the Coronation. Their presence was a reminder of the global significance of the British monarchy and its enduring appeal across the world.
In my conversations with ordinary people on the streets, it was inspiring to see the genuine affection and admiration they hold for His Majesty King Charles. I had the pleasure of meeting him myself some years ago and found him to be very approachable and immensely dedicated to his duties. he truly comes across as someone who is truly engaged in every aspect of his role, all the while remaining entirely humble.
From his tireless work on environmental issues to his support for the arts to the impressive support the Prince’s Trust has provided to businesses over the years, King Charles has already made a significant positive impact on our nation. I have no doubt that he will continue to do so throughout his reign.
As we look to the future, at the outset of this new era, let us celebrate the continuity, stability, and unity that the monarchy brings to our United Kingdom.
